Every shade, and what goes with it

The Shade Library is the whole complexion range in one place. Find your foundation shade and read across: the concealer that matches it exactly, the concealer one step lighter for brightening, and the skin tint, setting powder and bronzer at the same depth. Each shade is shown under daylight, warm indoor light and phone flash on its own product page.

How to read a Lanternlight shade

Part of the name What it tells you The options
The number Depth: how light or deep the shade is Twelve depths: 100, 110, 130, 150, 210, 230, 250, 310, 330, 350, 410 and 430
The letter Undertone: which way the shade leans C cool, N neutral, W warm, O olive

Two shades with the same number are equally deep. Two shades with the same letter lean the same way. So if 230N is the right depth but looks a little pink on you, the next thing to try is 230W or 230O, not 250N.

The four undertones

Undertone How skin reads A common sign
C, cool Pink or rosy; on deeper skin, red rather than golden Silver jewelry flatters, and foundations tend to turn orange on you
N, neutral Neither pink nor golden Both metals work, and most foundations are a little off in one direction or the other
W, warm Golden Gold jewelry flatters, and cool foundations look pink or ashy on you
O, olive A soft green cast Warm foundations look orange on you and cool ones look gray or ashy

These are signs, not rules. Jewelry is a hint. The test that settles it is wearing two undertones at the same depth for a day each, which is what the Shade Match Duo is for.

The six depth groups

To make forty-eight shades easier to move through, the shade selector groups the twelve depths in pairs: Fair, Light, Medium, Tan, Deep and Rich. The tables below follow the same groups. Every shade in them opens its product in that shade, and for the foundation, the concealer and the skin tint that page shows the shade under three lights.

Fair: Lanternlight 100 and 110

Light: Lanternlight 130 and 150

Medium: Lanternlight 210 and 230

Tan: Lanternlight 250 and 310

Deep: Lanternlight 330 and 350

Rich: Lanternlight 410 and 430

How the concealer maps

The Halo Blur Concealer has thirty-six shades, numbered from 1.1, the lightest, to 9.4, the deepest. The first number is the depth family and the decimal is the step inside it. Odd decimals lean neutral-cool and even decimals lean neutral-warm. Every foundation shade has an exact-match concealer, for covering spots, and a brightening concealer one step lighter, for under the eye. Cool and neutral foundations at the same depth share a concealer, as do warm and olive ones.

How the tint, the powder and the bronzer map

Between two shades?

That is normal, and it is not a failure of the system. Skin is rarely exactly one depth, and it changes with the seasons. The Shade Match Duo holds two 5 ml minis in the shades you choose, and its $14 comes back as a one-time code toward the full size.
